The McKittrick Food Circle
Past Food Circles
August 2018 - This month we tried something new, a Herbal Remedy round table. Some of our Food Circle Members shared their experiences with remedies they have tried. Penelope Bleache shared a great recipe for Honey/Onion Syrup, great for the cough & cold season coming up. Rhiannon shared her experience with using a cut onion in the room of a sick person to absorb bacteria. Joey shared her experiences with her favorite herb, comfrey. All in all a really great evening. Still the best pot luck in town!
September 2017 - Our Perennial Plant Exchange went really well this year, everything from iris, to daylillies to a banana tree was offered, many gardens will be lovelier next year! Not to mention another fabulous pitch in meal provided by....everyone!!
The McKittrick area food circle is an informally organized group which formed several years ago to encourage and support local food producers and facilitate their sustainability, that is economically, socially, and environmentally sound business, in our local food shed. We have done this primarily by hosting a monthly potluck supper at the McKittrick Farmers Mercantile to educate consumers about eating locally and seasonally and facilitate partnerships between producers and consumers through actual friendly face to face dialogue. Each month we feed our brains with an educational presentation after our meal on topics as varied as aqua culture to foraging to solar heating your chicken coop, basically whatever we would like to learn.
